Weight and Balance - C-GMBP
Following are the details of the new Weight and Balance on the Eagle, C-GMBP, done in April 2013
Overview:
The plane was weighed using a high quality mechanical scale on each of the main gears, one at a time, and a bathroom scale on the tailwheel.
We were able to take several measurements in order to validate the numbers with a pilot and without a pilot.
Configuration of plane:
The plane is configured with 30 Liters of fuel, and with everything, including the ELT, removed from the turtledeck.
A second set of weights were taken with Miles in the cockpit, as well as Pat in the cockpit. These numbers were run thru the calculations to validate the station for the pilot seat, which as it turns out is a bit off.
Raw Data:
Calculating the CG of the measured plane uses the following formula:
CG = D + ((R*L)/W)
where:
D = the Datum of the main wheels (79.31")
R = Weight at Tailwheel (79) (Note: datum of TW = 235.38)
L = Distance from Mains to Tailwheel (235.38-79.31 = 156.07)
W = Weight of Plane (1158)
CG = 79.31 + ((79*156.07)/1158
CG = 89.96

Raw Data:
Configuration | Left Main | Right Main | Tailwheel | Total |
Empty (30L) | 543 lb | 536 lb | 79 lb | 1158 lb |
Miles & parachute (191 lbs) | 600 lb | 593 lb | 151 lb | 1344 lb |
Pat & parachute (225 lbs) | 625 lb | 618 lb | 162 lb | 1405 lb |
Calculating the CG of the measured plane uses the following formula:

CG = 89.96
Weight and Balance Calculation:
Item | Weight (lb) | Station (in) | = | Moment |
Empty (30L) | 1158 | 89.96 | = | 104173.68 |
Less 30L of fuel | -53 | 86.25 | = | -4571.25 |
True Empty Weight | 1105 | 90.14 | = | 99602.43 |
